Flat Farmer

Connecting over 400 youth with Agriculture in 2025!

Thank you for your interest in this project. March is National Agriculture Month, a time to recognize the contributions of agriculture to the United States – and an ideal time to bring agriculture to Minnesota students! This is a great way for students to learn about agriculture around the state, while building a relationship with a farmer.

What is Flat Farmer?

Agricultural professionals participating in the project devote time from their demanding schedules to carry their customized paper dolls, photograph them, and share their daily work with classrooms at least once per week throughout the month of March.  (See More)

Who is this for?

Pre-K through Grade 6 schools, preschools, home schools - anyone interested in learning more about agriculture in a fun interactive way!

Flat Farmer Inspiration

FFA advisor and ag teacher Morgan Harrison in Ocala, Florida, came up with an idea inspired by the children’s book series Flat Stanley in 2018 and the subsequent Flat Stanley Project, which is a long-lasting literacy project.  The "Flat Farmer" project showcases a cutout Flat Farmer around the farm to teach kids what agricultural life is like.

In 2025 the Minnesota CattleWomen received permission from Ms. Harrison to take the Flat Farmer project and add their own twist.

Throughout the month of March, students will work on their Flat Farmer project, researching their farmer’s industry and using their flat farmer’s experiences as a reference. At the end of the month, students will have established a connection with the Ag industry.  This creative, unique project will leave a lasting impression on anyone who participates and students are sure to complete their month a great deal more ag literate!
